Learn to use a sewing machine
This short course is for anyone who has wanted to learn to sew, but doesn’t know where to start. This course is designed to ease you into sewing and not overwhelm you.
Each week, as you complete a usable project, you will also gain new skills. We start by getting to know the machine and how to thread it, followed by sewing fundamentals including seams, and hemming while making a draw string bag. In the following two weeks you’ll learn how to use a pattern to make a tote bag and in the last session, to insert a zip to make either a cushion cover or a zip pouch. This course will show you that you don’t need to fear sewing, instead you will relish in all of the new creations you can make with this practical and valuable skill.
Wednesday Nights 7 - 9pm
Wardrobe sewing made easy
Here is your opportunity to create your own unique winter coat to suit your style. Suitable for all skill levels, we will work together, step by step. The Burda pattern 6736 is designed to be warm, flattering but most of all, suitable for beginners. Your coat will be individualized by your fabric choice with options to make either the long length or shorter style. Its looser fit makes it a great layering piece. The 3 easy to follow sessions will start on your creation from the get go by cutting out the pattern with your fabric. Detailed recommendations of fabric choices, amount required and possible retail outlets will be emailed after booking.
Saturdays 1:00 —3:30pm
Bathers you like…that actually fit!
If you have always wanted to have a go at making bathers, but have been a bit scared to work with stretch fabrics like Lycra. Then this is the course for you. Over 8 weeks we will complete at least one pair of bathers, of your choice, customised to fit your body.
A choice from a range of swimwear patterns allows you to make bathers to suit your preference and needs, whether skimpy or for sun protection, one or two piece. There are almost limitless possibilities. There will be a focus on adjusting commercial patterns to fit your body type and you will be guided throughout the process to build the necessary skills to make your totally unique swimwear that you won’t see anywhere else.
Some general sewing ability is required, but you don’t need to have experience sewing stretch fabrics.
